The Departament de Biologia Cel·lular, Fisiologia i Immunologia was launched in 1985 originating from the chairs of Cell Biology, Physiology and Hystology. Later on Immunology was incorporated, once this area of knowledge started its activity.

From its beginnings the Department has worked on pro of the quality of its research, interdisciplinariety and basic and applied teaching. The Department is one of the first at the UAB and in Catalonia on biomedical research in areas such as neuroscience, cancer, autoimmune pathologies or reproduction biology.

Its researchers work on multidisciplinary aspects related to medical and health research, nanotechnologies, biotechnologies or in human and animal environment problems.
