The Centre d'Estudis d'Història de les Ciències was set up in 1995 taking the place of the Seminari d'Història de les Ciències which had initiated its activity in 1983. The Centre d'Història de la Ciència (CEHIC) of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona has secured its role as a key axis of research, teaching and dissemination of information on science, technology and medicine in Catalonia and Spain.

The scope of its activity ranges from historical research and teaching at University courses to tasks related with the subject, such as the preservation of scientific heritage and the promotion of public debates on topics related to contemporary science.
