UAS architecture for forest fire remote sensing

This paper presents the hardware/softwarearchitecture of the Sky-Eye UAS prototype. In particularit details the hardware of the prototype, its operationalconcept and the software avionics architecture. Thesoftware architecture is named UAS Service AbstractionLayer (USAL) and consists on the set of standard servicesrequired for most UAS missions. The USAL is adistributed architecture which follows the publish /subscribe communication paradigm, allowing fastdevelopment of new functionalities. We describe theUSAL services required to properly manage the remotesensing mission of hot spot detection. This includes thesensor management, data storage, communications,image processing, flight plan management and missionmanagement.
