The report summarizes the design, manufacture and testing of specimens of a 5 H Satin Carbon-fibre Epoxy composite [920CXEP2015-47.5%] to determine the statistic behaviour of their properties. The objective of the project is the study of the statistical aspects of strength and elastic properties of Carbon-Epoxy composite material by a series of tensile, compressive and shear tests. 155 experimental coupon tests were performed and the results were fitted to statistical distributions using the method of maximum likelihood and Komologorov-Smirnov Tests. Chapter 2 of the report outlines the underlying theory behind statistical modelling of mechanical properties. The experimental procedure including the manufacturing process of the specimens and the test plan are detailed in the Chapter 3. Chapter 4 presents the experimental results and the stochastic modelling of material properties and discussion on the likely implications of the scatter observed is included in Chapter 5. Conclusions are drawn in Chapter 6. |
