Title:	Coverage of Hybrid Terrestrial-Satellite Location in Mobile Communications

Abstract:	This work studies the improvement inservice coverage obtained by three different ways ofhybridising (terrestrial and satellite) triangulationlocation methods for cellular networks. Though theauthors assume that terrestrial cellular networksuse Enhanced Observed Time Difference (E-OTD)in 2G or Observed Time Difference Of Arrival(OTDOA) in 3G, and that the satellite GNSS usesAssisted Global Positioning System (A-GPS), theiranalysis can easily be generalized to address anyother triangulation method. A simple analyticalmodel is presented, which is used for evaluating theservice coverage of each approach. The numericalresults show how hybridisation leads to a highimprovement and an easy balance between trafficand geographical coverage.
